My 2 Farmer’s Wife Sampler blocks for this week: Blocks 44 Gentleman’s Fancy and 66 Periwinkle. This time I decided to try Foundation Paper Piecing with 4 pieces – block 66. It’s not perfect as I was not able to get perfect points in two areas but overall I am happy with my first go :). I purchased my copy of the Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt book from the Book Depository. I found they had the cheapest price that included postage to Australia. If you would like to buy a copy, here is a link to the Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt book. These blocks were made using Carol Doaks Foundation Paper purchased at Book Depository. I am really enjoying Foundation Paper Piecing so will do a few more blocks using this method before attempting Rotary cut blocks...

Being a newbie quilter, I watched a lot of YouTube videos as well as Camille Roskelley’s Craftsy Pre-Cut Piecing Made Simple Class course and Leah Day’s Craftsy Free Motion Quilting a Sampler course on how to prepare and baste a quilt sandwich. LOL hope I am using the right terms for it :). This was a slow process as I had to do it over 3 stages using my dining table. Hopefully I did it right. I used 100% cotton batting for this quilt. Now to quilt it. Thinking I might use the walking foot and “stitch in the ditch” as I do not have enough practice with FMQ. The quilt top was made using a layer cake of CHERRY ON TOP by Keiki, white quilting fabric and backing fabric as borders on the very top and bottom of the quilt top. This quilt will be for my 6yo DD. She chose the layer cake as she loves anything cupcake/baking related. She also chose the backing fabric as it reminded her of My Little Pony (the colours). Edit: After I basted my quilt top, I enrolled in Ann Petersen’s Craftsy Beyond Basic Machine Quilting course. She also shows a great way to baste your quilt top using spray...

I just could not resist participating in another Quilt-a-long (QAL). This QAL is run by Happy Quilting and is called Star Surround QAL. For more info about the QAL, please visit this link here. I have decided to just make 1×1 16″ block for this QAL. I will be making it into a dolly quilt for a dolly bed that should be finished any day now. Hubby is taking his time with painting it. Hopefully we both can finish at the same time. Both are for our youngest daughter, Melanie :). Here are my fabrics cut out for week 1 of the Star Surround QAL. Purple is her favourite colour. Two of the chosen fabric above is Veranda Screen Print by Amanda Murphy for Robert Kaufman. The purple print is D#11500 and the yellow print is D#...

I am really enjoying quilting and have just bought an eBook copy of Tula Pink’s City Sampler 100 Modern Quilt Blocks. Gorgeous blocks and look so easy to sew too. This book is also available for purchase at the Book Depository here. I love holding and flipping through a physical book but eBooks are also great as I do not have to wait for it to be delivered. Hoping to start after I finish the top for Star Surround QAL :)....

My next 2 blocks for the Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt: blocks 54 Kitchen Woodbox and 97 Waste Not. Block 97 challenged me as so far all my blocks have been one Foundation Paper piece pattern. Block 97 had 2 that you join together. Not perfect but I am happy with how the points lined up :). I purchased my copy of the Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt book from the Book Depository. I found they had the cheapest price that included postage to Australia. If you would like to buy a copy, here is a link to the Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt book. These blocks were made using Carol Doaks Foundation Paper purchased at Book...

My latest mail of buttons buttons buttons – Mystery Wooden Grab Button Bag. Are they not gorgeous! Love them. Can not wait to use them in my knitting and sewing. These were purchased from Skull Buttonry – an Etsy Shop for AUD$14 (including postage) within Australia. Purchasing this Mystery Button Bag helps fund Foundation 18’s orphanage in Bali, education and medical outreach programs, care for the elderly and fair trade women’s workshop. Foundation 18 also provides over 5500 meals every month to children who would otherwise go without. To learn more about Foundation 18’s programs, please visit www.foundation18.org. I am really happy with the buttons and will be buying more once I have used them up...
