My youngest daughter, Melanie, has a Superhero 5th birthday party to go to tomorrow. Being a girly girl, we have no superhero capes in the house. Thank goodness for google! I found this FREE Superhero pattern on Nancy Notions website. The pattern is a PDF file and can be accessed by clicking on the “project instructions” link. For her Super Melanie cape, I decided to do my own thing with the superhero logo. I drew the butterfly outline and M letter by hand. I appliquéd the M onto the butterfly outline then appliquéd the butterfly outline to the cape. Not perfect but my 4 years old is a super happy girl :). She wanted to try it on to see if it will fit and it does! She did not want to take it off. Off she goes :). The pattern is a super easy pattern and super quick to sew up :). The neckline was a bit big for her so I added velcro in two areas. Wished I had reinforced the neckline as then I would have used two snaps instead. Another option is to add button holes and sew in buttons. Will try that if I have to make another superhero cape :). Also in 2011, I sewed a Funky Friends Factory Baby Bunny Rabbit which was left unfinished. The pattern was easy to follow and quick to sew up. She sat unfinished because I was worried about doing the eyes, mouth & nose. Finally finished her today for my youngest DD :). My Baby Bunny Rabbit was made using Funky Friends Factory’s pattern (found here) with fleece fabric and filled with...

While I was making Gertie Gecko Heat Pack, a friend (thank you Kylie S) told me that she used to make cold packs with wheat. What an awesome idea!!! Every time my kids bump themselves, they would ask for a little cold gel pack. They work really well except over time the pack breaks and the gel would leak out. Here are 3 cold packs I made using the leftover pearl barley. These cold packs were really quick & easy to make. This is how I made them: Decide on a size and draw that sized square on a cardboard, trace & cut out the squares from corduroy fabric, sew the squares right side together leaving a gap to turn right side out, top stitch around leaving gap open/not stitched, fill with pearl barley or wheat, top stitch the gap closed. As these cold packs are made with fabric, it is best to store these in a snap lock bag or sealed plastic bag to keep them dry in the freezer. Easy peasy...

Yay for school holidays! No school lunches to make or school drop off & pick up to do = more sewing time for me :). Here is my first attempt at Gertie Gecko Heat Pack using Funky Friends Factory’s pattern. The gecko was really easy to sew up except I hit a snag with the eyes using cotton knit fabric. Will have to get some white fleece for my next one. Here is my Gertie Gecko, she is really shy about her eyes. My Gertie Gecko was made using Funky Friends Factory’s pattern (found here) with corduroy fabric and filled with pearl barley. The eyes were done with scrap white knit fabric filled with...
