Wow! Where have November gone! I can not believe there’s only one day left of November. This school term have been crazy busy with lots of school events and birthday parties. I did manage to finish my Piece of Cake 3 quilt for my 7 years old daughter’s birthday this month. Quilting is not perfect but a big improvement compared with my first 2 quilts. My daughter loves her quilt and started using it as soon as it was dry :). More info and photos of this quilt can be found at these past blog posts: My First Quilt Top – Piece of Cake 3 My First Quilt Sandwich Quilt Details: Finished size is 60″ x 71″ Pieced and quilted by me Binding was done by sewing machine (binding sewn to back first then front of quilt) Piece of Cake 3 pattern by Camille Roskelley available at Thimble Blossoms Fabric used is a layer cake of CHERRY ON TOP by Keiki I have decided to link up with Sew Cute at Blossom Heart Quilts, Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? at Confessions of a Fabric Addict, Finish it up Friday at Crazy Mom Quilts and TGIFF....

Being a newbie quilter, I watched a lot of YouTube videos as well as Camille Roskelley’s Craftsy Pre-Cut Piecing Made Simple Class course and Leah Day’s Craftsy Free Motion Quilting a Sampler course on how to prepare and baste a quilt sandwich. LOL hope I am using the right terms for it :). This was a slow process as I had to do it over 3 stages using my dining table. Hopefully I did it right. I used 100% cotton batting for this quilt. Now to quilt it. Thinking I might use the walking foot and “stitch in the ditch” as I do not have enough practice with FMQ. The quilt top was made using a layer cake of CHERRY ON TOP by Keiki, white quilting fabric and backing fabric as borders on the very top and bottom of the quilt top. This quilt will be for my 6yo DD. She chose the layer cake as she loves anything cupcake/baking related. She also chose the backing fabric as it reminded her of My Little Pony (the colours). Edit: After I basted my quilt top, I enrolled in Ann Petersen’s Craftsy Beyond Basic Machine Quilting course. She also shows a great way to baste your quilt top using spray...

I love Craftsy and mainly enrolled in their knitting courses. This year I decided to treat myself to a Quilting Craftsy course. I bought/enrolled in Camille Roskelley’s Craftsy Pre-Cut Piecing Made Simple Class course and I have not regretted it. The course is well structured and easy to follow. Camille makes it look easy and fun. She also offers a lot of great tips which has been a great help to me – a newbie to quilting! I am so excited that Camille will be teaching/doing another Craftsy course. Hopefully it will be out in time for Christmas. The great thing about Craftsy is that you can watch the course again and again. Very helpful with my first attempt of Camille’s Piece of Cake 3 quilt pattern. Below is my first finished quilt top EVER! So excited :). Sorry for the bad photo. I have not figured out a great way to take a nice photo of a big item yet. Will take more and better photos once I have quilted it.
